Black screen + sound loop settings/revirginization issue . . .

Hello and Greetings to the Wii Hacks forums,

I have an LU104 Wii, something I was fortunate enough to win the chance to purchase while overseas, yay military. Jokes aside, this is a Wii I have had ever since they came out. A couple years back I got Super Smash Bros. Brawl, did all the updates and was able to play online. Since then I hadn't played, nor even started the system since then. I moved, hooked everything up and now I can not open the Wii Settings menu. As is stated in the Title, when I go to the Wii Settings menu, it pauses for a few seconds, black screen with the menu music still playing, then it goes into a sound lock loop with a continued black screen. This Wii had been on shelf in a box for a couple years, before I took it back out and found it was semi-bricked. Could only play a couple of my downloaded VC games and a few of my disc based games.

Now, since I can't get to the menu to try and format the system, thinking it might be a software issue, I decided to softmod it. I think it was on SM 3.2 or 3.3 when I started it back up and used bannerbomb to install Homebrew. I have tried numerous wad loaders like DOP-MII, Wad Manager, YAWMM and the like. Everytime I tried to load a wad downloading them through the NUS downloader and putting them on an SD, Dop-Mii would get a hash error and not install the "update". Finally was able to update to SM 3.4, don't remember exactly which method I used because I tried many things, but I THINK it was using Dop-Mii to update to 3.4 via a wad. Unfortunately that has been the only wad I have been able to install via Dop-Mii.

I have installed some older versions of IOS's, obviously not stubbed ones, to try and get my disc based games to play without using the disc updates. I know I could use Preloader/Priiloader to "turn-off" the update partitions, but I am honestly trying to get my Wii working back to stock. So I got everything updated to SM 3.4U, and no such luck, still had discs locking up and the Wii Settings menu still locked up.

So I next used BootMii to make a backup, which was of the 3.4 update(let me finish before you criticize this action). I tried using ohneschwanzenegger, and yes with the "Revirginizing" guide. The interesting thing that happend with me was that every "clean" install I did, would not boot. But, if I did an update on the backup'd up nand it would boot. So, even though I was progressively upgrading the IOS/SM I still could not open the Wii Settings menu, wether it is updated to 3.3, 3.4 or 4.1, or having the SM's reinstalled. When I do a clean install, it won't even boot up, nothing but a black screen.

This leads me to believe that it is a hardware issue. I have my set of tools coming in this way, and hopefully I can affirm my concerns that this is either a hardware failure (I hope not), or a disconnection (I seriously hope it is that simple).

I know this is my first time posting on this site, and if anyone is willing to help, I am more than happy with providing more info or clarifying anything that doesn't seem to make sense.

Wii Bricked Black Screen, question.

Im pretty sure the Wii i have been trying to hack has been Bricked Completely, however nothing out of the ordinary happened previously with others i've hacked and i used the exact same method as before. The System Menu was downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1 using WiiMod and the NUS option, the downgrade was completed and i exited to system menu, then the screen went black and stayed that way. Now when i boot up the screen remains black, the CD draw light flashes then goes off as normal, the CD inside spins and checks but nothing seems to be working otherwise.

I had installed Homebrew and Bootmii via IOS as Boot2 was an option, I didnt have a chance to install Priiloader or Preloader.

I have a previous NAND Backup on my PC from a previously backed up Wii i hacked before, just wondering if there was anyway to transfer that NAND Backup into the one thats Bricked. Or if there is any other method i can try other than sending it to Nintendo.

This Wii is also Chipped with a Wasabi DX Chip. If this helps my situation any.

Edit: Not sure how or if i can edit the original thread as i cannot see an option for it.

.. Boot2 wasnt an option [made a mistake]

Hey everybody. I made a stupid mistake of not having priiloader installed(Because I installed a new wii theme) and my wii is bricked... I went to wad manager and I had a wad for a theme. So I installed it and decided I disliked it. So I uninstalled it and now my wii has a complete brick. The warning page wont even come up. Is there ANYTHING I can do? I am a speedrunner and rly need this wii. The memory I can do without though.

Hi sorry, I was reading through the forum and I know there are a lot of these issues, but I can't make much sense of them. I'm a serious noob.

I used this site to install homebrew for my wii. I think it was 4.3u at the time but it might have been 4.2u. I used Letterbomb. so I think I have bootmii installed...
I wanted to try backing up games recently, cus they get scratched badly by the kids, and was told to try getting usb loader. but the homebrew channel wouldn't work. the disk thingy would just flash blue and it would lock up.
So my BF decided to look at youtube videos. I told him to just leave it and research it. no rush. but....... he decided to downgrade the system menu to 4.2u or 4.1u and the screen went black. It flashes once, but that's it. now he's all depressed and saying he's sorry, he's made it so I have to buy a new wii.... grrrr.

Is there anyway at all to save it? can I use priiloader if it wasn't already installed? I don't have a Gamecube controller.

Safety Error

Not too long ago I ran into a problem with my console that I did not quite understand. The problem and my intrigue for understanding and circumventing it lead me to this site among other resources.

Now, nearly six months down the line I am met with yet another issue of which I don't recognize the root cause, but this time I am confident that the bane of my problems stems from a modification's affinity to be compromised.

All due respect to the efforts made to learn about Nintendo current model and the hard work that it took to development interfaces and applications to meet the demand for the console. I am nevertheless frustrated about the sheer amount of information that I have to sift through to gain some sort of familiarity with the hacking scene that consistently fails to reciprocate the same level of insight which lead the community in their discoveries. At this point I feel like its necessary that I research the hacking scene from square one and follow up with my programming degree to finally comprehend where competent hackers are coming from.

Now before the flag of "nagging incompetent user" comes to thought, I would like to address the vast number of threads that have gone up on this site all posing permutations of homebrew shortcommings.

In truth, the matter that even compelled me into writing this was my disappointment over an administrators response: Google it. The most amusing part in this scenario is that time and time again I come across different tutorials all urging people to ask questions.

So what should I ask and how do ask it in a manner that appropriately conveys this confusion? All with the goal in mind to understand and, as a result, avoid whatever issue brought me to become confused in the first place.

What does it mean for a console to hang at the Health and Safety screen and for that hanging to override the solutions prepared on this website?

What work can be done to salvage my console.

----------------------------------------------

Retracing my steps

The date of my recent brick, my intentions were to demonstrate Project M to some fellows.

I ran into a snag with the codeset not activating, ergo the change menu orientation (found in P:M) was present but the actual stages and physics reverted to the original brawl settings.

I figured it may be necessary to update my Gecko install so I registered a Gecko Channel so as to run the Modification through the system menu. Gecko was successful, Project M was not.

Low and behold, the Project M codeset will not activate on a SD-HC or any card greater than 2GB.

I had it in mind that the codeset would indeed activate under a HC card if I ran the codeset under a custom IOS. IOS60 --> CIOS249. Why not, right? Wrong.

Now comes the folly- I try to enter Multi-Mod Manager throught the HB Channel forgetting that I had removed the SD card (with all the applications on file) in order to replicate the codeset on a non HC card.

The play by play of what occurred:
The HBC loads, I select MMM, the console searches for that particular application, it does not find it, thus a System Menu failure [Brick]

My memory is fuzzy as to what happened onscreen where the immediate brick occured. After restarting the console, the startup does not allow me to enter the System Menu (No Press A comes onscreen). No solution saved to my SD card will activate.

I'll need trace back further as to why the Boot2 option is absent. Bootmii was my means to restoring my NAND when I first could not access the Menu (ie first brick).

the wii i am trying to unbrick has me a little stumped.
i'm pretty used to PSP modding but i dont work with wii's much.
heres what i know about it:

US wii, purchased within 6 months of wii's release.
currently running 4.3u.
currently has bootmii on boot2
formerly had HBC, it was removed manually.
it has never been downgraded directly, aside from NAND recovery.

it has gone between bricked and semibricked status multiple times. we do have a NAND backup, but the backup was made in what appears to be a semibricked state.

before successful NAND restore: wii menu does not load, freezing at health and safety warning. trying to load HBC or wii menu from bootmii resulted in a hard crash.
after multiple attempts, an apparently successful NAND restore leaves me in this position:
system is barely functional, it actually booted to main menu once, so we tried to update:
newer titles (skyward sword) allowed me to run an update, from 4.3u to 4.3u (lol?)
afterward:
SD menu of data management= freeze. on ANY SD card. including freshly formatted wii-branded ones.
system settings = system data is corrupted, refer to manual blahblah.
aside from these issues it appears to be functional.

ive got a feeling someone out there has a pretty direct answer to this one, but i see too many different answers, and many dont seem to apply to my individual case; so i thought i'd finally just make a thread.

4.3 WII banner bricked, no GC ports

Hi,

friend sent me a KEHxxxxxx WII (PAL), which only displays Health menu and freezes (no "press A key to continue" sign). I think it's 4.3 from factory. This new WIIs don't have any GC ports or memory slots.
There's not Bootmii installed or NAND backup.

Is this WII salvageable at all? I have Infectus. Thanks.

System files corrupt, Modmii wont work

After being in storage for a while I tried playing my Wii tonight to come to an error about my system files being corrupt. I tried to format the system by loading maintenance mode, but as soon as I go into the system settings menu it comes up with the corruption error. I found out about Modmii and tried using that, but the bannerbomb didn't load when I used the 4.1 version and came up with an error 004 when using the 4.2 version. I'd be happy with just bringing it back to stock. Loosing my save files arent that big a deal at this point. What options are left for me?

Wiimote does not sync to my wii anymore

First off my wii goes straight to black screen so I can't access the channels and I don't know how to fix this because I don't have bootmii, or priiloader.

I was told that once your sync wiimote is un-synced (which I synced it to my nonehacked wii in the living room) you can't re-sync it without going back to the channels menu
Is there any way I can get my wiimote to re-sync with my hacked wii?
Sorry if my information isn't very clear I'm still new to this whole thing, and a friend of my brother's was the one who originally hacked the wii.

my black screen says
IOS v60
Systemmenu v417
preloader v0.29

Probably broken Bluetooth module (question about USB)

Hello,

After external HDD power adapter crashed, i have black screen on my Wii (white, 5years old). WiiMote does not work (and want not synchronize), but with GC controler i can navigate Priloader, BootMii, HomeBrew Channel, i can load WiiXL and play Atari games... not bad :)

I found info about Full Brick: "A broken Bluetooth Module will present the same symptoms, but can only be fixed by replacing the module.".

Is it normal or possible that USB port does not work when Bluetooth module is broken?

SysCheck hangs on IOS202.

Wii system information:
System menu: v4.3 on IOS 80
Console Region: Europe
Video Standard: PAL 50

Sound Mode -
AHBPROT: 00000000

system menu corrupted - no wifi

Hi,

I have been trying fixes and restoring the nand using bootmii. No success.

I found and downloaded ohneschwanzenegger, NUSdownloader, installed bootmii/boot2 (saved my ass), installed system menu wad in nand, re-installed homebrew channel. Stumped at this point.

This started a few days ago when the banner brick showed up shortly after a hombrew browser update. I then lost network connectivity the next day.

The nand restore (using the current nand backup from the broken system to build, the new version with the new system menu wad and the downloaded - from NUSdownloader, 4.3u v513 ohneschwanzenegger nand builder - after re-installing bootmii/boot as preloader) put me back where where I was. I don't have the priloader anymore - it got bricked when I tried to restore it - probably since I have bootmii installed. I lost a lot of the patched IOS's. I am a bit reluctant to try re-installing wads.

Any suggestions/direction would be appreciated.

I post this thread on behalf of a friend who attempted to softmod his wii following the mauifrog softmod guide. (I apologise if this post has been uploaded in a different forum, i selected submit new thread but i can't find it anywhere, so i'm assuming it didn't post the thread). He has told me that he istalled bootmii as boot2 and completed the mod. It was only after he had finished the mod that he realised that he had left a game in the disc drive. When he powered the wii down, instead of getting the red power off light, he got a yellow/amber one. He said that when he powers the wii up, it loads the bootmii screen, and he has to select the wii icon for it to then load in the usual way to the system menu. He asked me what i thought, but as i have never had a problem with my wii, i can't really give him an answer. What has he done? and can it be rectified? many thanks for any and all help.

Nice Brick.

I am on 4.3u and for some unknown reason I was only getting a black screen when booting up. I am not sure what caused this as before this instance I had not used my wii for a couple months. Anyway, Priiloader WAS working at first, so I found a video on youtube that said re-installing a system menu would fix the error. I tried it, but all it did was erase Priiloader (my fault, I know). Now I am stuck at a black screen only, no priiloader when holding reset upon boot.

I have my NAND backup, but Bootmii could not be installed as boot2. Now that priiloader is gone, is there any hope? I also cannot get the recovery menu with a GC remote.

Hello,
I have some big problems with my WII. So on start, my WII is first from I think 2005-2006 production, I soft modded it and do nothing to now (when my guitar hero not work). So I decide to make update with Pimp my Wii.

Of course I don't make any backup, before started all process....

After Pimp my Wii finish all updates, console restart, and started with my preloader v0.30.

But when I want to start "system menu" says me : es_diverify failed
When I try to start Homebrew Channel also put me error : Error autobooting HBC. maybe title not installed?

So I can't start anything, on this forum I found short guide, with these steps:
Download system menu 4.1u wad
Download ios60patched.wad
Place both wads in sd:\wads
Place wadmanager's boot.dol in the root of your sd-card
load preloader
click load/install
load wadmanager
use ios249
1st- install patched ios60
2nd- install system menu v449
then reinstall preloader

I have 4.2u system manu, but I want try with 4.1u and ios60...

When I finally start Wad Manager 1.7, when open program welcome screen, my WII remote switch off, and it wont start... (I don't know, freezing?).
When I want sync with WII nothing happen.

I don't know what I should do now.

Thanks for help.
Regards

I have a Completely Bricked Wii I think.

OK, let me make a list of all the information I think will make things easier on anyone that tries to help me with this.

First of all I don't know any of the Wii's history other than that the previous owner said they didn't mod it in any way or add anything that wasn't approved by Nintendo. If that is true or not, I don't know. I bought this wii for about $12 off of ebay just to see if I could fix it. Unfortunately my knowledge is limited (but growing) and I have not been able to get anything other than what doesn't work on it.

  • Serial Number: LU:50027
  • Initial startup health screen comes up with the flashing "press A"
  • Pressing "A" brings up the "Corrupt system files" error message
  • Trying the + - with and without pressing "A" brings up "Corrupt system files"
  • Holding the reset button on power up does nothing
  • No actual gamecube controller to attempt a method with it (waiting for one in the mail, should be here within a week)
  • Opening the Wii shows no evidence of any invasive hard mods

Anyone who can point me in the right direction on what I could do to fix this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. I am aware that some people have a method of being able to flash the wii, and I would appreciate it if that method is a potential fix to PM me with instructions/price or whatever so that I can get that done.

Also, I have a 2GB SD card that I can use for whatever might be necessary. If a mod chip is required for a fix, please point me in the right direction as to where I may be able to purchase one (preferably the cheapest that will get the job done effectively).

Thank you all for your time in helping me with this.

I'm in need of a little help/direction

My Wii has a black screen when turned on, i got to this point when I was actaully following this guide 'Completely Virginise and 4.2 Softmodded Wii' when it got to the point of B2, installing all the WAD files, i got an error on the system menu file,i took the sd card out to try another system menu wad file but when i inserted the card back in, the Wii didnt recognise it. Ooops!

My Wiimotes have de-synced so i have a gamecube controller that i can operate, i can also boot into Multi_mod manager through having Bootmi installed(yippee) it is at this point i am lost.

Ive tried a couple of methods of getting things back to normal but no luck,http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...tion-here.html & http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...-your-wii.html

So i'm out ideas, if anyone can help it would be very much appreciated

Added info, i think i might've been on 4.2e when i tried to 'Virginise' it. It is a European Wii and i've i've no idea the current status with regards to whats installed wad or ISO wise

Any info required i will try to give
